Dynamics of neural activity
The brain is a network of electrically active cells which communicate with each other by means of electrical impulses. I study how the collective dynamics of neural networks depend on the biophysical properties of individual neurons and the underlying circuitry.
To this end, I analyze mathematical models of single nerve cells and networks with the help of techniques from statistical physics. I am a theorist, but work in close collaboration with electrophysiologists doing in vivo and in vitro experiments.
During my PhD, I worked on statistical physics of static granular matter.
