An institute dedicated to complex systems
L'Institut des Systèmes Complexes Paris Île-de-France (ISC-PIF – Paris Île-de-France Complex Systems Institute) is a gathering place for multi-disciplinary researchers focused on complex systems.
What is the science of complex systems ?The growing science of complex systems was born out of theoretical questions that run through research in various fields on objects known as "complex systems." This science and its response to modern research challenges — particularly understanding and making efficient use of complex research data (as generated for example by macromolecular, neural, economic, social, cultural, ecological, and environmental systems) — touch on most, if not all scientific fields.
With its concern for both inner human complex systems and the outer ecosystems in which we live, the science of complex systems reconciles science with social needs in a sustainable way. Nowadays, a transdisciplinary convergence is improving our common understanding of such systems. All over the world, driven by a common resolve, research institutes have emerged to support these new concentrations of ideas.
The ISC-PIF is a French and European realization of this international dynamic: it is a veritable multi-disciplinary research and training center dedicated to the promotion of projects on complex adaptive systems. As a place for researchers to meet and share knowledge, the Institute organizes seminars and provides visibility for its members’ publications. The Institute also contributes to the development of complex systems engineering. A regional network leader for all of Île-de-France, the ISC-PIF is linked to both academic and private organizations with an interest in complex systems.
