Between unicellularity and multicellularity:
microbes in interactions (MINT)
1st - 2nd July
2010

Institut des Systèmes Complexes Paris-Ile-de-France (ISC-PIF)
57/59, rue Lhomond 75005 Paris, France

Microbe populations behaviour and evolution are quantitatively  monitored from the single cell level to the whole population/multicellular organism level, revealing both statistical distributions of their properties and large scale collective dynamics.

This meeting will discuss the dynamics and evolution of interacting microbial cells. Approaches to this problem, which are often characterised by interdisciplinary efforts, will include both theoretical and experimental investigations on microbial populations.

Two main biological systems will be discussed: Dictyostelium  social amoebae, as a model organism alternating between unicellular and multicellular phases, and bacterial populations, as a powerful model in quantitative biology.
