CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
Guest Researcher 2010
The Complex Systems Institute, Paris Île-de-France (ISC-PIF) is hiring
1 (one) Guest Researcher on an 18-month fellowship.
Submission deadline (for full consideration): January 31, 2010
Interviews of selected candidates: February/March (TBA)
Start of employment (tentative): possible as early as April 1st
Gross salary: 2300 to 2800 euros/month, depending on years of experience
The Fellowship program at ISC-PIF offers research support for scholars who have recently received a doctoral degree and want to conduct independent research. ISC-PIF Guest Researcher Fellows pursue research questions of their own, with bridges to projects and themes developed by ISC-PIF. They engage in collaborations with other researchers from ISC-PIF, the Ile-de-France Region (Paris area), Europe and beyond. Fellows pursue projects that lie at the boundaries of traditional academic disciplines and create new fields of inquiry.
ISC-PIF Guest Researchers are expected to participate in all ISC-PIF activities, in particular submit grant proposals of collaborative projects to major funding agencies, create scientific networks and special interest groups in Ile-de-France, invite speakers to seminars and organize workshops or conferences (also involving colleagues from Ile-de-France). Their primary work residence is the Paris institute located 57-59 rue Lhomond.
Research at ISC-PIF is integrative, as there are no formal programs or departments. Individual research projects can draw input from a variety of fields including biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, mathematics, economics, geography, sociology, anthropology, and political science. We welcome applications from any of these fields, as well as other scientific topics pertaining to complex systems that are not necessarily listed here. Descriptions of the thematic domains and projects of the faculty and current Guest Researchers Fellows can be found on the ISC-PIF website. Although most of the research at ISC-PIF focuses on theoretical and computational approaches, applicants whose research includes experimental or data-collection aspects are also encouraged to apply.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. (or expect to receive one in the spring of 2010), a strong academic record, and a proven ability to work independently. We especially welcome applicants who have an interest in transdisciplinary interactions and collaborations, and have demonstrated the potential to think outside traditional paradigms.
International applications are also welcome. Successful foreign applicants must obtain a visa as a condition of their employment.
